This stylish hotel is centrally located directly next to El Portillo beach and only 4 km from the centre of the tourist resort of Las Terrenas (Samana). The hotel lies in a quiet and idyllic location, surrounded by large palm trees in the middle of a tropical nature area. Flip-flops are recommended due to the offshore coral reefs. The transfer time is approximately 4 hours to Puerto Plata airport. The Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo Hotel overlooks one of the most unspoilt beaches in Samaná, Dominican Republic. “Final review: First week was okay and customer service including security guards excellent. On the second week, they shifted security guys and they were so rude.
The bad:
1- Wifi unstable.
2- No parking inside and transportation inside the hotel sucks. Trust me! If you have a toddler or if you are handicapped go to a smaller hotel or be ready to walk more than 2 miles per day because they don’t have enough transportation and they stop transferring people inside the hotel after 11pm.
3- Mini fridge doesn’t keep things cool.
4- I have 2 bulbs that never worked. Even after they came to fix them.
The good:
The best things here are food, restaurants, all the people working at the restaurants, and some educated security guys we met.
The only reason I would comeback is to visit the restaurants, not to stay.”

“El entorno..... Sobre todo la playa. Es preciosa!!!!!! En cuanto al resto le quitaba una estrella al hotel...Me imagino que a raiz de la pandemia ham habido muuuuuuchos recortes de todo tipo y una gran afluencia de turistas residentes lo que hace la estancia menos agradable. En general mucho descontrol de medidas de seguridad y de convivencia. Los turistas extranjeros pagamos un sobreprecio que no es recompensable a lo que recibes. Un pena!!!”
